QwerkRover V1

QwerkRover V1

Here’s the first build with the new base and omniwheels; the bot is otherwise equipped as before, but I figured it was worth renaming and versioning in anticipation of future improvements. I’ve abandoned the expense-ometer, however :-)

My first plan was to screw-mount the qwerk board further back, so that the pan/tilt mount on the upper deck would be available, but this lead to seriously uneven weight distribution so for now it’s held in place in the middle with velcro tape. The wifi dongle still sticks out the back, but that’s always been a problem!

My first attempt at soldering up a compound eye board simply didn’t work (no variation in output across any sensor) so I’ve ordered in some jumper wires from Cool Components- along with a Laser module: what could possibly go wrong there?

  2. Do charmed labs still sell Qwerk?

I wanted to buy one, tried on their website, but they haven’t listed the product in there! Could you please tell me how (and when) did you get your Qwerk?

    Thanks,
    Su.

  3. The qwerk boards are no longer available from Charmed Labs, and I’m not sure how many actually exist! They announced a partnership with VEX who should eventually release this qwerk-based microcontroller. It’s not clear yet whether this will work with existing terk software and/or the java API, but hopefully should offer extra features through VEX-brand sensors etc.

  4. Hi there, I’m Chris Bartley, one of the developers for the TeRK project. As Graeme said, the VEX folks (Innovation First) have indeed exclusively licensed the qwerk. The beta program will start this week, with commercial availability (hopefully) soon thereafter. The initial version of the VexPro won’t support telepresence, but we’ll be adding it this year. Good stuff coming, promise!
